Get Out in the Community

Even if you've got the best marketing experts handling local marketing for your company, they cannot replace getting out there into the community. You need to do this yourself.

Ask a few employees to attend local events to promote the business. Better yet, get involved in charitable events and market them through other marketing channels. Buyers love socially responsible businesses, so do your best to become one.

Work with Other Local Businesses

Another great method of local marketing is working with other programs.

Seek out enterprises that are not in direct competition with you but whose customers may be interested in your products or services.

If you own a restaurant, take menus to local resorts and car rental places. If you are a florist, trade business cards or pamphlets with wedding planning shops. As long as an agency is not competing against you, they normally will have no problem with a quid pro quo relationship.

Ask for Reviews from Customers

While a marketing expert can ask people to review your service through online means, it is up to you to get on the front line and request these testimonials.

Reviews are an essential part to local marketing. They increase your SEO score and let locals know they can trust your corporation. Remember, though, that you can't offer incentives for positive reviews. You can, however, offer incentives for a client's sincere opinion.

In the grand scheme of things, all business is local. This is particularly important for small businesses to remember. And although hiring a marketing and advertising expert to handle the heavy hauling is a smart move, there are still a few things you need to do all by yourself to succeed.

The 2016 primaries saw the development of the anti-establishment idea. Bernie Sanders presented himself in place of the status quo. This is even though he voted together with Hillary Clinton 93 percent of the time.

Sanders understood, however, that he needed a value proposition. This is true for small businesses as well. When marketing, you need to point out the one thing that makes your business more special than the rest. Create value, and then lead with it.

Always Benefit From Your Problems

This isn't Hillary Clinton's beginning at the rodeo. In 2008, she went up against Barack Obama in the primaries. Thanks to flaws such as a lack of new ideas and overconfidence, however, she lost. She is making sure not to make the error with Sanders.

Every local business owner will make flaws, but that doesn't imply a certain strategy won't work. Maybe the wrong keywords were targeted. Maybe a wonderful article was posted on social media at the wrong time. Look at these goof ups and adjust accordingly.

Discover Your Audience

Donald Trump is considered the most polarizing political figures in modern history. This has a lot to do with his abrasiveness, but Trump also understands that this is what his audience is looking for. A significant portion of the GOP wants someone who is not afraid to say what he thinks, and Trump gets that.

This is also necessary for businesses. If your key demographic is millennials, you must understand what they are looking for. Also, be certain that you're opening in a good area. Since Washington DC saw a 10.6 percent explosion in millennial population over four years, it could be perfect for the aforementioned demographic.

Presidential primaries will always be a fascinating time in American politics. And if marketers can learn a thing or two in the process, it is all the better.

Taking Analytics to another Level

Some businesses use ads in their articles to get additional earnings from third parties. If this is the situation, Facebook still allows the ads and will let you keep all revenue.

Furthermore, you can have Facebook insert ads itself and you will still get a major portion of the earned revenue. Instant Articles will also make certain that the ads are not “above the fold”, and this will ensure consumers aren't immediately hit with an ad upon clicking your content.

Sales Just From Clicks

This is essential because over 40% of consumers will get out of a page if it takes longer than three seconds to load. Usually, the aforementioned study found typical sites take 3.66 seconds. So in actuality, this tool will keep your users engaged.

Facebook Instant Articles allow users to read your content right inside of the Facebook app. By doing this, your articles will load much faster than if they had to load outside of the app. Actually, studies showed that Facebook Instant Articles loaded in under 300 milliseconds.

Related: What Does Facebook Instant Articles Mean for You

Consumers Will Always Be Engaged

If you are presently publishing content, you likely use analytics. Fortunately, Facebook Instant Articles are harmonious with the most common analytics tools out there. Additionally, Facebook also offers their own user behavior analytics for Instant Article publishers.

Improved Analytics Options

Local entrepreneurs often post articles and blogs on their websites to bring in traffic. By using Facebook Instant Articles, though, users wouldn't actually visit the company's website.

While this may seem counterintuitive to a budding entrepreneur, this new social media resource could actually be advantageous.

When firms take advantage of real-time events in their promotional tactics, this is called real-time marketing. Organizations all over wanted to get on this marketing bandwagon after Oreo sent out an incredibly successful tweet referencing the 2013 Super Bowl blackout. Fortunately, success in real-time marketing will not be brain surgery.

Ensure Some Connection to Company

It is not difficult to jump on a Twitter trend with a random advertising and marketing message, but this message must be relatable to what is taking place. What did Oreo and the Super Bowl have in common? Seemingly nothing, but they were able to link the two in a creative way. Go for this.

Schedule Time Aside for large Events

While it would be great for businesses to have someone on standby monitoring the internet for any huge breaking story, this often just is not possible. After all, we have to participate in the offline world from time to time. There are certain events, though, that company owners should look closely at since they are likely to result in huge stories.

Oreo pulled this off by staying abreast of Super Bowl happenings, but there are many more events where staying up to the mark can pay off as well. Whether it is the Academy awards or a huge local concert, people will be talking online. Coming up with brilliant ways to capitalize on this chatter is the mark of an effective real-time marketing professional.

Pursue Industry Leaders

The only way to properly engage in real-time marketing is to stay abreast of what is happening. Following industry leaders is an outstanding way to do this. When preparing for large events like the Oscars, though, it's important to follow people linked to the event. This consists of presenters, hosts and even entertainment news sources.

While more time should be spent on other marketing techniques, preparing for and investing hours into real-time marketing can pay large dividends. Organizations are not guaranteed to knock one out of the park each time, but even one success can garner massive attention.

In its very first five years, Uber went from nonexistent to worth over $5 billion. There are undoubtedly a multitude of lessons to be uncovered from a organization this triumphant.

The fact is, though, applying their marketing methods directly might not be what your local company needs. Instead, utilizing the lessons they teach us can make your advertising and marketing campaigns more productive.

Form Partnerships

To expand its reach and marketability, Uber has formed partnerships with places like Virgin America. Local businesses can do this as well. This usually only works when teaming with businesses outside of your industry, but it works well.

Restaurants, theme parks, rental car agencies, and any number of other businesses can easily have a mutually beneficial relationship where they each refer consumers to the other.

People Are Going To Pay More For Excellent Products

While many don't even recognize the fact, the price of your products and services are one of their most marketable features. This often leads business owners to sacrifice quality in an effort to offer prices lower than their competitors. Uber can teach us that this is folly.

While Uber is more cost-effective than a taxi in some cities, this is not the case in New York, Philadelphia, and a few other cities. Yet for some reason, Uber is still effective in these locales. It is because people understand the convenience and quality of service they receive from Uber.

People will pay more for a superb product, so concentrate on that first.

Improved Quality from Quick Feedback

Uber allows its users to right away leave remarks via their mobile device, and this allows the company to continuously improve on their service. You should likewise elicit feedback from your clients.

Offer incentives for straightforward online reviews. These reviews, whether negative or positive, can help in advertising. Positive reviews are great, and since you can answer negative reviews, people will see that you care about client satisfaction.

Uber has obviously done something right to achieve this level of achievement. Why not take a few lessons and shoot for the moon with your corporation as well?

Whether it is the personal or business community, building trust is essential. If you remember this, you will give your company a definite advantage.

Make Consumers Have Confidence In Local Business

Don't Berate Competition

It seems like making your rivals look bad would be a great thing, but it is important not to do this by being negative. Instead, show consumers why your product or service is better. Averting negativity shows people you are willing to stand on your accomplishments rather than the failures of others, and this is a great way to build trust.

Build Actual Partnerships with Customers

Some marketers consider posting to social media an effective way to build relationships with clients. While this does give people a sense of what the company is all about, you will need to go beyond this and let consumers know that it is real people behind the company profile.

One simple way of doing this is addressing comments and questions on social media. A different way to do this, while also showing that you really care, is to respond to online reviews. Yelp once reported that 1.1 million business pages had been claimed on their site, yet there are over 18 million companies in America.

Without claiming a small business page, it is extremely hard to respond to reviews, so a large percentage of companies are obviously failing here.

Be Transparent About Goof ups

Every small company will make mistakes, both in the offline and online worlds. When these happen, it is essential to own up to them.

Whether you have a single negative review online or an unprofessional server garnered negative media attention for the company, simply make sure you realize the mistake and explain what is being done to ensure it never happens again.

Building trust is vital in any relationship. Make sure your local business has a chance at success by not forgetting this.

We have all experienced a scenario where we no longer wish to receive emails from a sender, but the company makes it incredibly difficult to unsubscribe. If people are not able to easily unsubscribe, they will probably mark your messages as spam.

Eventually, this results in major email providers thinking you are spamming their customers and your marketing messages will start going straight to spam folders. In this post, we're going to identify some popular email marketing mistakes that may be avoided.

3 email marketing mistakes to avoid

Making It Difficult to Unsubscribe

Have you ever tried to unsubscribe from a contact list only to find that the firm makes you jump through hoops?

This will annoy customers, and in the end, many will simply mark an email as spam to ensure they do not have to see further correspondence.

This makes major email providers believe that you are spamming people, and this could lead to your marketing messages actually going right to spam folders everywhere.

Inconsistency isn't a Strategy

Businesses that do not generate a consistent marketing strategy are losing the race before they're able to get started. Customers need to be aware that something is always taking place.

Don't send so many emails that it is annoying, but undoubtedly have a weekly or bi-weekly newsletter.

Not Testing Out Emails

Marketing messages need to be tested before they are sent to customers. Using this method, if there are graphic or formatting errors in a message they can be adjusted prior to being viewed by actual customers.

Deliver test emails to multiple servers, like outlook, gmail, and yahoo, to look at the formatting that the recipient might find on their end. In this way you know your final product looks professional and is truly sending the correct message.

Recent scientific studies found email marketing accounts for nearly 7 percent of customer acquisitions. Don't let your numbers lag by making avoidable errors.

Almost anyone you talk to these days regarding Facebook laments on the subject of getting more people engaged on their Facebook business page. Often they will look to software for pumping up their Likes to get more traction, when in fact, a strategy based on sound simple tactics will work more wonder than they ever imagined.

Let's take a peek at 5 of the best practices for creating engagement on your Facebook business page.

5 Easy tips to make your Facebook page more engaging

Choose imagery wisely – The visuals you choose to use on your posts and ads make a big difference. Be sure they are all original and something you would share yourself. You can use Canva, it's a nice and simple tool for creating beautiful images.

Place a call to action on your cover image – This is a relatively recent one, and for the right offer or purpose, it works very well. First and foremost make it relevant and on topic, and you'll find you will be rewarded with more actions and engagement.

Optimize your page descriptions and About sections – This is your chance to tell the world about you and your company. Don't waste it! Make sure to include links to your other web properties, in addition to giving a clear picture of who you are and what you're about.

Publish frequently – Publishing infrequently is asking for mediocrity. If you're not interested enough to come around everyday, chances are no one else will be either. Show up, and when you find a post that gets a good response, consider promoting it with a paid ad.

Answer people – If there are queries, comments or inquiries expressed by your followers, be sure that you respond quickly. You should never leave them in the lurch. Giving them a feedback as soon as you can tells them that you are still listening and encourages them to visit your page often.

Doing these simple tasks can set you up for an engaging page that will keep visitors returning time and again to see what else you have to share.

There's simply no way if you've been marketing for any length of time that you haven't been advised that Facebook, and social media in general, is essential to your online success. I would say that's totally true, but with one major caveat: you have to know how to use it, or you'll come away believing that it is a useless time-wasting exercise in futility.

We're here today to tell you that if you've embarked upon any sort of content marketing, you absolutely need to make sure Facebook is included. Let me explain why.

Why Facebook Must be a Cog in your Content Marketing Machine!

One of the biggest reasons why you'll want to employ Facebook in your content marketing is the fact that they are on the cutting edge of what's going on with mobile and video online.

Let's take video, for example. They are second only to YouTube, getting an amazing 4 billion views a day.

In addition, they have four of the top eight non-game apps in the Apple store; Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram. We don't need to tell you how popular these are.

Four Tips for Content Marketing on Facebook

Use images and videos – Using visual media as part of your content marketing on Facebook is probably the best use of your time, because the opportunity for these to be shared far and wide, extending the reach of your brand and message is unmatched.

Keep things short – It's been proven that shorter posts get around 60% better engagement than longer ones, and this is primarily why you're posting here in the first place, to create audience reach and new fans. This can be easy to do if you are basically leading your readers somewhere else.

Use Facebook paid ads – Facebook is turning into the paid ads weapon of choice, primarily because of their terrific targeting functionality. This is good, as you'll want to use them to promote, and try your best not to get overly promotional in your content, as Facebook has pretty much declared war on brands promoting within posts, without paying for ads.

Promote blog posts on Facebook – One of the best tactics you can use is to announce new content, such as new blog posts via Facebook. This can easily drive loads of new visitors to your blog, and have them take the first step into your sales funnels!

A lot of the buzz surrounding Facebook as of late is the launch of Facebook Instant Articles. This mobile-only platform is effectively raising the bar for content publishers by enabling you to create an incredibly rich, multi-layered approach to content that will amaze and engage.

Facebook Instant Articles are built on concepts borrowed from Facebook Paper, and perhaps the best thing about it is that it allows mobile pages to load a whopping 10X faster than normal mobile pages, providing a near “instant” experience. The visual aspect of these pages are truly amazing, with a lot of versatility, creativity and control built right in.

But what can it do for me you ask? Well at the moment, it's in a testing mode with only 9 publishers as part of the trial. (The New York Times, National Geographic, BuzzFeed, NBC, The Atlantic, The Guardian, BBC News, Spiegel and Bild) Facebook wants to ultimately roll this out to anyone who wants to share stories, but that is not available just yet.

Some of the cool features of Facebook Instant Articles

Want to put in embedded tweets, YouTube videos, photos, image galleries, videos and interactive graphics directly into the posts? Not a problem! They will even start directly up, increasing time on site and engagement.

Need more detail? You can use the handy zoom feature to have a closer look into videos, images and maps.

Like what you see? You can Like or comment on pages directly inside the app!

Publish your own logos and Facebook Fan page follow buttons within the story.

Need more stats? Your Google Analytics integrate nicely with the articles.

While Facebook Instant Articles are only in Beta mode now, Facebook wants to eventually roll this out to anyone who wants to share stories on Facebook. Facebook is allowing publishers who post sponsored content (like Buzzfeed) to have that content shared. (About the only way anyone not associated with the aforementioned 9 publishers can get their own content on there at the moment)

Facebook's Instant articles will significantly change the way content is presented and viewed on the mobile web. It will set a new standard that will lift expectations of most any content published on the Web.
